Founding spots now open
For scaffolding contractors
Self-employed scaffolders now need right-to-work checks. Here’s the easy way to cover every scaffolder.
Since October, self-employed scaffolders need a right-to-work check before they start.
SubCheck gives you, all in one place:
- Government-registered digital ID checks
- Guided share-code checks
- CISRS cards and insurance
- Re-check reminders
Just add each scaffolder: SubCheck sends them a link and they do their part from their phone.
Launching early 2027. Free to reserve, no card.

Right-to-work rules used to cover employees. Since 1 October 2026 they also cover individual subcontractors and people on worker contracts.
So the self-employed scaffolders you use now need checking too, not just anyone on your payroll.
A Home Office minister has named construction a “high-risk sector”. Expect main contractors to want proof that everyone on their scaffold has been checked.
What you now have to do
- Check every scaffolder before they start. Not when they turn up on site. Before.
- Keep the evidence for as long as they work for you, plus 2 years. Then destroy it securely.
- Re-check time-limited visas on or before the date their permission ends.
- Check substitutes. If a scaffolder sends someone in their place, that person needs checking before they start. You can’t leave it to the scaffolder.
Fines go up to £60,000 per illegal worker (£45,000 for a first breach).

How SubCheck will work for scaffolders
This is what we’re building. None of it is live yet.
- Add each scaffolder. SubCheck sends them a link.
- They send their right-to-work documents or share code, CISRS card and insurance from their phone. No app, no login.
- SubCheck tells you which check to do and walks you through it step by step. You confirm it, and it saves the evidence with the date.
- It chases them before CISRS cards, insurance or visas run out. Substitutes get checked before they go up.
- See who’s cleared for each job. Send a main contractor a one-click evidence pack for everyone on the job.

Does SubCheck do the check for me?
For British and Irish passports, yes: the check will be done digitally through a registered right-to-work digital verification provider. For everyone else, the Home Office guide says the check must be carried out by you or someone under your control. So SubCheck collects their share code, walks you through the check, saves the evidence and reminds you when a re-check is due.
Is this legal advice?
No. This site and the checker are guidance only. If you’re unsure about a particular person or arrangement, get advice.
When does it launch?
We’re aiming to launch in early 2027. Founding members hear first.
Do I have to pay anything to reserve?
No. Nothing, and no card. Reserving a spot just means we’ll contact you about the launch and your founding price.
Am I signing up to anything by reserving?
No. When SubCheck launches you can decide whether to use it. If you do, you get the founding price of £15 a month for life.
